Global warming and its impact on birds and other wildlife

GLOBAL WARMING TALK On Monday 7th April 2014 at 8pm Breffni Martin will give an illustrated talk on global warming and its impact on birds and other wildlife. The talk will outline the science behind global warming, its probable impacts, and its effect on birds and other wildlife. It will particularly focus on the north west Atlantic region, Ireland in particular. The talk will take place upstairs in the Spirit Store, Dundalk Docks, Dundalk, Co Louth. Time will be available after the talk for questions/discussion. Entry is free and all are welcome! HIDE OPEN DAY On Sunday 19th April 2014 we will run an open day for our newly installed bird hide at Lurgangreen, named The Oscar Merne Bird Hide. The hide will be open to all members of the public from 11am until about 6pm. The hide is located at the end of the cul-de-sac immediately south of the Fane river at Lurgangreen. The Wild Bogs of Ireland

Nuala Madigan (Education Officer Irish Peatland Conservation Council)will give a talk entitled The Wild Bogs of Ireland at 8pm at the Spirit Store, Dundalk, Dundalk Docks. Boglands are one of Ireland's wild landscapes. They are thousands of years old often being described as living history books and are home to a great diversity of wildlife. This talk will explore peatlands from their formation through to their modern uses and threats with particular attention to the diversity of species they support, including birds. Entry is free and all are welcome!

Peter Phillips - Birding from Cape to Tory

Well known Louth birder Peter Phillips will give a talk entitled "Scarce and Rare Birds From Tory To Cape" Peter has been visiting both Tory Island off Donegal and Cape Clear Island off west Cork, arguably Irelands two hottest birding spots, for the last 15 odd years. The talk is an account of what he found over this time - it will also describe practical aspects of visiting the islands Upstairs FREE 8pm All are welcome!

The State of Ireland's Birds

This evening at 8pm, Monday 13th December 2013, Brian Caffrey from Birdwatch Ireland will give an illustrated talk on The State of Ireland's Birds at The Spirit Store, Dundalk Docks, Dundalk, Co Louth. This talk coincides with the publication of the current Bird Atlas covering 2007 - 2011. Brian coordinated the Atlas work in Ireland and will cover the major trends in bird populations, as well as touching on the rarer breeding birds. Copies of the Atlas will be available for purchase. Entry is free and all are welcome!

Birds and Bird Photography

On Monday 4 November: well known bird photographer Mark Carmody will deliver an illustrated talk entitled "Birds and Bird Photography" at the Spirit Store, Dundalk Docks, Dundalk, County Louth upstairs at 8pm. Mark has co-published three bird books: Shorebirds of Ireland (2009), Freshwater Birds of Ireland (2011) and The Birds of Ireland: A Field Guide (2013). Entry is free and all are welcome!
